Giving a baby liquid medicine usually ends with most of it on a bib. The Accu-Dose Paci changes where the medicine goes.
How it works: Fill the syringe, attach it to the pacifier, and let your baby suck. The channel directs the liquid toward the inside of the cheek rather than onto the front of the tongue, where most of a dose ends up getting pushed straight back out. Sucking does the rest.
The syringe: Marked in common infant dosing increments from 0.625 mL up to 5 mL, with teaspoon markings on the other side. If your pharmacy sent a syringe with the prescription, a standard oral syringe will also attach to the pacifier.
Dosing and age: Always follow the dose on the medication label or from your pediatrician or pharmacist, and check the measurement in the syringe before attaching it. Check with your pediatrician about giving any medication to an infant, and follow their guidance on age. Wash the pacifier and syringe thoroughly between doses, and especially between different medications.
One thing worth knowing before you buy: This works by being a pacifier. Babies who take a paci generally take to it quickly. Babies who refuse pacifiers altogether tend to refuse this one as well. Introducing a few different pacifier shapes early tends to keep babies flexible about which one they will take.
Afterward: The silicone shape works as an ordinary pacifier once the dose is done, so it can go straight to soothing.
